I was prepared for the fight. I am talking about this very stubborn niece of mine. She no dey carry eye see person! I usually go there clean and return home confused and with pockets full of sand, dirt all over me and not without a slight headache! Lol!
Hence, I prepare very well before I embark on such visits. God knows nothing will carry me to that house except my elder sister comes with those her…you don forget us now..you don’t miss us at all..Busky, na wa for you ooo…..bla bla bla bla bla……..
I made sure I wore nothing light in case of tears. I wore a jean jacket over another jean trouser, all thick, and rugged!
The house was unusually quiet that evening. My sister was on her PC. Her hubby was away. There was no light and everywhere was cold and quiet except for a tiny voice filtering from the kitchen. I tip-toed into the kitchen, only to see this tiny stubborn niece of mine standing on a side chair, holding unto a long spoon which she was using as microphone.
I asked her what she was reciting and she was like…
“Heyyy (jumping down from the chair and with a hug), good evening Uncle. I saw this diary in our room. Please uncle, explain them for me!” I was confused.
I collected the book and guess what she was reciting…
1: Do all you can to make a living
Go extra mile to survive, work extra hours, hang out, live a healthy life, pray, forgive, be happy, hope, love, give, smile, dance, think, dare, sleep and again, pray…
2: Be successful.
3: Everyone wants happiness but no one wants pain…but you cannot have rainbow without a little rain.
4: Every woman deserves a man that will keep all the promises her ex broke.
5: The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.
6: Everyone hears what you say. Friends listen to what you say, best friends listen to what you don’t say.
7: Time goes, friends stay.
8: An old man said, “Erasers are made for those who make mistakes” but a youth replied, “Erasers are made for those who are willing to correct their mistakes. Attitude matters!!
9: There is no competition in destiny, run your race and wish others well.
10: Some women were brought up to believe that men were the ANSWER. But they weren’t. They weren’t even one of the QUESTIONS!
11: Its bad manners to say “I love you” with a mouth full of lies.
12: I am not waiting for a Prince. I am waiting for the one who thinks I am their Princess.
By the time I slowly read the last few words, Nnedinso was already asleep in my arms. I didn’t even realize that the light has been restored.
So, I rose, placed Nnedinso gently on the cushion, slid the small diary into my back pocket, bid good bye to my sister and HERE we are…
What have you learnt?
